I'm a member of the "I'll just watch New Moon cos everyone else did" club. I mean I really didn't enjoy the first movie but still checked it out cos of the media hype all over it. So watching the second, third and whichever is last installment is like already an obligation cos I got to see the first one.
I didn't really put to much expectations on this film. I was actually more worried about hurting my ears while in the movie house because of the screaming girls & (boys?) when that scruffy looking pale dude comes out of the screen. I was even more worried cos even before watching this movie some girl friends of mine were like drooling all over the werewolf dude! So I really prepared for it, NO ear plugs though...that's a little exaggerated. haha
So how did the movie go?
Well it was dragging, 2 hours of too much talking and lame exchange of kisses. I almost fell asleep but I just felt like I can't cos I'll be wasting 160 pesos, that's already worth a large Frozen Yogurt at White Hat with 3 toppings. Yum Yum! I can't really say much about the story cos first I don't want to spoil it for those of you who haven't seen it yet and the fact that I haven't read the books (I don't have any intention to do so). You see, I'm just watching cos of the media hype. Haha. The new characters (werewolves) well added a little something to the story but the movie's wardrobe unit really felt the effects of the recession, the dudes were half nekked all through out the movie..much to the ladies delight and the envy of the guys. Fun fact: the fat guy sitting behind me whispered, "damn this movie is insulting!" WTH?! haha
There's some scenes that I did like, first I think the transformation from human to wolves is pretty cool. Not really flawless but cool, they weren't as scary though cos most girls who've seen the movie would want to have a wolf of their own, they're just big but yeah IMO would pass for a crazy house pet! The fight scene with the royal vampire family (volturri?) was the highlight for me. I dunno if we'd be seeing more of them in the next film but they kicked the Cullens arse! Other than that, the whole movie was so-so, the lame "Vampire sparkling like a diamond when hit by sunlight" is still there, aren't they suppose to burn?! Not much blood sucking and stuff.
The Twilight Saga is really a vampire movie for the tween market. Really not like "True Blood" I mean that show has real blood suckers and depicts the SEX and VIOLENCE that represents a real vampire themed show. (IMO - vampires are sexed crazed, violent jurrasic creatures!) I'm not a movie critic so I wouldn't give it stars for rating. I'll just say this, if you're a fan and there's not a single bad review of the film that you'd believe GO, SEE it! This film was really meant for you Edward Cullen fans and safe to say Werewolf Jake fans. If you have seen the first movie, like me, Go and still see it. I mean you already started so why stop. It's like finishing your Mom's not so good food, you don't want to eat everything but you just have to. And finally, if you're not a fan and you haven't seen the first movie or read any of the books (I suppose cos you're not a fan) go spend your money on something else. :)
Koreans are everywhere here in Manila and I may be one of the last ones who got hit by the Korean wave here in my country. I actually don't know why I'm getting hooked to the so-called "K-Pop" (Korean Pop Culture), I guess I'll just blame it to the fact that I am trying to learn the language. But then again...one factor that made me pursue learning the language is the fact that I'm amused by Korean shows and movies (yeah and some songs...though I can't understand a single word...music is really a universal language!).
Which leads me, what made me hooked to Korean pop culture?
One obvious reason is the fact that there's not a single good show on television here in the Philippines. Every program suck! Primetime TV block is just a 4 hours of stupidity and crap. Well excluding the 30minutes or so of the latest season of Big Brother which I follow. :) Korean shows (well those that I have watched) aren't jaw dropping or anything, there's nothing really special about them in fact I feel like Korean artists often make a fool out of themselves in the shows but that's the cool thing. They're not afraid to let it all loose. It's fun!
Korean movies are nothing like the movies produced here in the Philippines. Filipino movies are pure crap. There may be a one or two that is worth watching at the cinemas considering the ticket prices which is totally unreasonable (that's is why the "pirates" are getting much more money than local film outfits). What's worst here is that there has been a lot of "INDIE" films that are supposed to be getting rave reviews here and abroad, but those INDIE films which the directors, writers and its artists sell as "ART" is basically porn. The art part is just a lame excuse in to showing nudity, normal sex and all hell break loose, man to man sex! If you do a web search on Filipino Independent films, you'll have tons of gay themed movies..If that's your thing go ahead...LOL. I'm really not a film expert or stuff, I haven't watched a lot of Korean movies to even start comparing it to Filipino movies but I'm just saying that basing it from the Korean movies I've seen which are more often than not "mellodramas," there are also some Korean movies that pushed the envelope such as Green Chair and Frozen Flower but it is still worth watching other than stupid next attractions in Manila like "WAPACMAN" (The latest movie of boxing champ Manny Pacquiao..having lot's of money and bringing glory to this country gives him the license to do it) and really cheap porn movies hiding under the tag of indie films.
This is crazy! Would you add up to his millions by watching this crap? haha..
Music wise, well I still think we've got the best singers but we lack performers. Koreans are great performers. I've always thought that Koreans can kick my arse in dancing - KabaModern style! The current music scene in Korea is bombarded by Girl Bands and Boy Bands that seemed like they are popping out of the asian Barbie and Ken factories. I think kids there really take the performing arts seriously, I also think their Government supports such things. They audition for numerous Talent Agencies then undergo rigorous training before debuting on stage. Again, I'm just basing this from my little knowledge of Korean pop culture. There are also talent agencies here in the country and they produce some good talents here and there but going back to the music and performance thing, I'd give Pinoy artists a grade of 4 while Koreans a high 9! Just because they can sing (prolly not as good as some Pinoy singers) and dance (like kick arse dancing) -- so Britney really doesn't have an excuse. There are a few Korean songs playing in Local airwaves here which I think is weird cos seriously WE CAN'T UNDERSTAND a single word but it still sells, some kids can sing along to some songs to regardless if they are pronouncing the words right or not. "Nobody" by Wondergirls was a craze (I beleive companies will have employees dancing to that tune in their Christmas parties next month), the 2ne1 girl group also have a huge following here since one of its members was a former reality show contest winner here in the Philippines (Yup she's 100% Korean and Filipinos fell in love with her during her hay days). There are other Korean boybands and girlbands that are getting a huge following here in the country. Actually the songs are catchy and most of it has the western influence already but whenever I see some of them perform it live its just different. Their passion for what they are doing shows not unlike Filipino artists who sings fast songs and just stands there on stage like a they're singing a ballad.

Filipino: I feel bad for this.. haha
to be fair...these 2 are good.
Wow...this totally shows how I'm proud of my race. haha.. This is just an observation. And I'm only comparing Filipinos to Koreans. There are some Korean stuff that I think is also crap IMO, its not great as in awesomeness but better than most Filipino works are. Let's just say that they're the "flavor of the month." I still take pride for being a Filipino but let this serve as something that will make Filipino singers, writers, directors think that they are not as good as they think they are. There's still room for some improvement in films, television and performance.
It's High School Musical Reloaded! But I guess the big difference is they talk about REAL (well most of it) issues. So what makes this show stands out...Probably cos they remake pop songs, the cheesy factor could go a notch higher but it works better for me than the Disney Inspired HSM songs. The songs are something I could sing along with without thinking of Mickey Mouse or Vanessa Hudgens nude pics. haha... (why would I even think about that).
So yeah, this show is a show for the LOSERS. That's the primary reason why the shows posters have this "L" hand sign on top of a weird looking cast member! Why is it that glee kids are tagged as LOSERS, well cos they are the weird ones, they aren't the cool cheerleaders or varsity players. They're just a bunch of regular students who have good vocal pipes! But then again this show proves another point...Including cheerleaders and varsity players in the glee club! Huwaaaaaat?! Yeah that's actually something that won't happen in real life. But then again, knowing HS, kids always want to be with the COOL people to the extent that they pretend to be someone they totally aren't. They murder the GEEKS & NERDS in them just to fit in. Crazy but hey it happens. Who would want to be picked on everytime you pass by your schools hallways? Who would want to seat with a bunch of weirdos in the canteen (well you're even lucky if you get to sit with some people)? So what's the point of putting CHEERIOS and FOOTBALL players in the gLee cast, well BELEIVE IT or NOT! We're ALL LOSERS!
There's a loser in each of us, you may be the most popular kid in school but when you go home, you're parents are not around...Being cool is just a front. It's a defense mechanism. It's something we use to cover up some of our flaws. It's not bad to be COOL and wanting to be cool but it ain't half as bad to think that we are LOSERS too, in one way or another.
**Now that's what I call a great turn around...from yesterday's SEX talk...I'm giving kids some PEP talk. wowzers!
How often do you thing about SEX? Have you ever thought about sex while in the office or did it ever pop up your mind while having an innocent conversation over coffee? It's a weird thing. You think about it out of nowhere and whats worst especially for guys is that you'll end up "feeling" uncomfortable.
Why does this happen? It's a given SEX is everywhere... A girl walks up to you wearing a really short skirt --- that's sex right there! Admit it or not there's a PERVERTED SOUL in everyone of us. I was totally not thinking about sex prior to posting this entry, and out of nowhere I've written 2 paragraphs about sex! hahaha... Just writing this down makes me think about sex! Gawd I must be really horny! LOL
What were you doing when out of nowhere you thought about SEX?! How often do you think about SEX?
